The CMMC is the Department of Defense’s standard for safeguarding sensitive information across the defense supply chain. Level 2 compliance—which applies to most mid-sized contractors —requires organizations to implement 110 security practices aligned with NIST 800-171, then pass a third-party assessment that confirms compliance. The new requirement is designed to reduce risk, improve accountability, and ensure that companies with access to DoD-designated Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) have proper safeguards in place.
